January has flown by. I completed the doula course I was attending in Saskatoon and am currently waiting for two more pregnant mommas to decide they want to hire me as their doula. I need three births in total to achieve certification through CAPPA canada as well as CPR, some breastfeeding group meetings and a few other odds and ends. I was able to get a website up and running with Google. I love google, they are one of the best things on the internet in my opinion : ) The website is free and the domain names that I got are only about $3o a year, so advertising for very little start up costs.
I was brainstorming after my classes finished and wondering what to do to make the women in my area more aware of the choices they have medically. I figured with all my free time;-) why not start a birth collective in our area! So I got ahold of the other doulas in the southwest corner of our great province and they love the idea as well :D I am doing up the website that we can all be listed on and will send out the link when it is completed and ready to go. I along with the other doula/student midwife that lives about 5 min away are also going to see if we can start a discussion group in Swift Current to get things moving along.
Ray has recently(in the last week or so) been working non-stop so that is good for our checkbook ;-) He was away down south by Shaunavon area for 4 days here last week. That was...different. Single parenting with a toddler and baby IS hard but not impossible : ) The boys are growing up way too fast and there are pregnant women all around me...my ovaries are twitching lol But nothing is going to happen for a while yet. Two of the pregnant women around me are the only other two doulas in our area...which is good for me as I am the only one who can work then.
